All columns start as text. Excel files retain text types for IDs, leading zeros and dates. CSV uses the selected separator and UTF-8. To protect against spreadsheet formulas, formula-like text in CSV is prefixed with an apostrophe.

How it works

Choose the delimiter and encoding that match the file. Keep product codes and long IDs as text. Mark a column as numeric when you want to calculate with its values.

Assumptions and limits

Use XLSX to preserve leading zeros in text columns. When opening a CSV, spreadsheet apps may guess the column types again.

Paste CSV or open a CSV/TSV file up to 1 MiB. Choose the separator and original encoding if automatic detection gives the wrong columns or characters.
Keep the ID column as text. Mark only the Amount column as numeric to turn decimal commas into numbers for Excel calculations.
Optionally remove empty or duplicate rows, check the preview and download XLSX or UTF-8 CSV. The limits are 10,000 rows, 128 columns and 100,000 cells.

The XLSX rows shown above preserve 00127 and 00981, including their leading zeros, and the letters ä and õ. Excel may display numeric amounts with a comma or point according to its locale. All columns start as text until you choose numeric ones. CSV files do not store column types, so another app may reinterpret them when opening the file.
